Jacob's Village

Enrichment

Life is a journey enriched by the experiences we have that help us learn and grow. Jacob’s Village is dedicated to providing its residents with on-going opportunities to build new skills, develop areas of personal interest, and seek out new challenges.

Our range of enrichment activities and support services are tailored to meet the needs and interests pinpointed in our residents’ Personal Development Plans. We design those activities with the thought in mind that life isn’t just about work. For example, our residents love music and enjoy the opportunities we provide them to pursue that interest, such as an on-campus chamber string quartet performance or community outings to a local bell-ringing concert or a touring African children’s choir. Other enrichment activities include such diverse offerings as seasonal craft projects, beaded jewelry making, trips to the zoo, and sing-alongs.

To foster a “giveback” spirit, residents are encouraged to experience the satisfaction of being community volunteers. Scott, our resident who volunteers as a guide at a tourist site, is a veritable encyclopedia of data as far as that historical structure is concerned. He rattles off for visitors a wealth of details, from the size and lumber source of just about any piece of timber in the building, to the work of the 5 seismic sensors located on the property.

Mike is our resident who has chosen to both protect the environment and raise money for our activity fund. Mike heads our recycling program. Whether it’s newspapers, plastics or aluminum cans, he collects and organizes all the recyclable materials from our receptacles. The newspapers and plastics are taken to a recycling center, but Mike crushes the cans and trades them in for cash. That money does such nice things as buy snacks and souvenirs when our residents go on outings.

Our retired resident, Donna Kay, volunteers weekly to help fold bath towels and other washing at a ladies’ retirement/assisted-living facility. She is greatly loved and appreciated there. Seeing the happiness etched on Donna Kay’s face when she returns home each Wednesday, Jacob’s Village staff members are rewarded in knowing their collaborations with local service providers and partners furnish every resident with a broad, vibrant array of growth opportunities.
