Health & Fitness

Jacob’s Village promotes balance of mind, body and spirit via a holistic approach. For example, the Village has a Health & Fitness Program to promote residents’ wellness through nutrition and appropriate exercise.

Before beginning an exercise regime, our residents are evaluated to determine their physical fitness level. The exercises then provided them are tailored to match their individual abilities and needs. Each Friday, dubbed Fitness Night, a fitness instructor leads residents in exercises that enhance their dexterity, balance, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.

Residents likewise participate in aerobics, yoga, bowling, dancing, tai chi and basketball. To offer further fitness options, development of a Fitness Trail is planned in the near future. Jacob’s Village also collaborates with local universities [UE & USI], which furnish health/fitness interns to assist our residents.

Residents are encouraged to maintain healthy diets. A dietician has designed the residents’ menus based on good nutrition and their food preferences. Residents eat fresh fruit and vegetables from their garden.

Our in-home coordinators stress good hygiene and wellness practices among our residents. We also work in tandem with residents, their families and medical providers to coordinate needed health services. A nurse visits residents on-site and monitors their health. Also, all staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR. Residents and staff hold emergency drills on a regular basis.

Good health and fitness are pivotal to a happy life. Jacob’s Village strives hard to ensure its residents enjoy plenty of both.
